There has been very little research on the effectiveness of Lexapro for ADHD. However, it appears to treat coexisting depression and anxiety symptoms.
Lexapro (Escitalopram) works by increasing levels of serotonin, one of the neurotransmitter chemicals that carries messages between brain nerve cells.
On August 15, 2002, FDA approved Forest Laboratories antidepressant Lexapro (escitalopram oxalate) Lexapro, a single-isomer of Celexa. Celexa is a mixture of two mirror image halves called S- and R-enantiomers. The R-enantiomer is inert so it was was removed from Lexapro, leaving only the therapeutically active S-enantiomer. Lexapro acts more quickly and requires a smaller dose than Celexa.
Lexpro is classified as a 'C' category drug, which means that animal studies show that it is not safe in pegnancy and should be avoided during pregnancy
