Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine dimesylate), is an FDA-approved long lasting stimulant for ADHD. There are anecdotal reports of fewer side effects than adderall XR and some other ADHD stimulants. Vyvanse is a new way of delivering long acting d-amphetamine.
Vyvanse is a new way of delivering an amphetamine. Vyvanse only contains the one enantiomer of amphetamine thought to be more "active". Enantiomers are the left and right "mirror images" of the same chemical compound, only one of which the body metabolizes. focalin is another amphentamine enantiomer used to treat ADHD. Vyvanse is also different from focalin and other amphetamines such as adderall it is a "pro-drug". A pro-drug is inactive until it is broken down or metabolized by the body to release the active drug. Vyvanse contains an amphetamine which is chemically bound to the amino acid lysine. When metabolized the chemical bond is broken and the active d-amphetamine is released. Because it takes a while to break this bond the d-amphetamine drug is longer acting than is a straight amphetamine. Thus, a single dose all day.
Dosage strengths are 20mg, 30mg, 40mg, 50mg, 60mg and 70mg.

Decreased appetite, Insomnia, Dry mouth, Stomach pain, Headaches, Irritability, Nausea, Diarrhea, Feeling jittery, Shakiness (tremor), Increased sweating, Vomiting, Fever, Weight loss, Dizziness, Drowsiness, Mood changes.
Vyvanse can also slow down the growth rate in children.
