adhd - ADHD treatment is a systems, multi-faceted process for the whole family
Educational games are one of the greatest innovations in education. They are fun, cheap, self-paced and have built-in assessment. However, their potential is seldom realized because they are usually misused. Typically a child is told to go to his room and play his educational game for a certain length of time. That is, "go play Reader Rabbit for half an hour" per day. The child hears this as go to the rock pile with a sledgehammer and break big rocks into little ones. This is not very motivational or inspiring to a child.
To use education teams effectively, the parent must first explore the games themselves. You need to figure out approximately where your child's skills are on the game, then look ahead a level or two. Find a level just a little ahead of your child that they can easily achieve. Then tell them something like, "just as soon as you can show me that you can do level four on your game, then we will go right down and get that blah blah blah that you have been wanting." Be generous with your rewards. Remember, children work for rewards far more cheaply than you would pay for tutors, teachers or guys like me. Take a bargain when you see it.
If it is available, it is a good idea to load an education game through WebCAER. With WebCAER running in the background, if the child become becomes frustrated with the game, they can stop the game for a few minutes and watch the WebCAER lights until their frustration subsides. This will make learning faster, easier and more appealing.
If you do this right, you will be amazed at how fast your child's educational skills will increase and how enthusiastic they are to do their educational games. Below you can find some free educational games to download from my site. if you do not find games to address your child's learning problems, you can go to www.superkids.com.
